The Living Qur’an in The “Nyadhar” Village Rokat Tradition: The Harmony Between Qur’anic Values and Local Culture in East Kebundadap

Abstract

This study examines the manifestation of the Living Qur’an in the Rokat Desa “Nyadhar” tradition in East Kebundadap, Sumenep. It aims to explore the integration of Qur’anic values into local cultural practices through religious activities involving community members and students participating in the STIQNIS Sumenep KKN program. Employing a qualitative approach with socio-religious and cultural perspectives, the study finds that this tradition is manifested through the recitation of Surah Yasin, tahlil, congregational prayer, istighosah, and the distribution of food (berkat). These practices reflect fundamental Qur’anic values, including tawhid, remembrance of God (dhikr), tawakkul, ukhuwah, and charity (sadaqah). The Rokat Desa “Nyadhar” tradition functions not only as a religious ritual but also as a medium of cultural preaching, social cohesion, and informal religious education. It strengthens community identity and social harmony while facilitating the intergenerational transmission of Qur’anic values. Thus, Rokat Desa “Nyadhar” demonstrates a harmonious integration of Islamic teachings and local wisdom, while affirming that the Living Qur’an is a dynamic and contextual phenomenon that continues to live through the social and cultural practices of the community.
