KESETARAAN GENDER DALAM Q.S. AL-HUJARAT AYAT 13 PERSPEKTIF PENAFSIRAN M. QURAISH SHIHAB

Abstract

The issues surrounding women's lives, such as: equal rights, discrimination, domestic violence, female labor, and human trafficking, are themes that dominate discussions about gender. These themes prevail in every gender study conducted, as if the presence of gender issues serves as a savior for women. However, gender does not only encompass themes related to femininity, as issues concerning men also enrich thoughts and gender studies, particularly those related to their relationships with women. The objective of this research is to explore how gender equality is presented in Q.S. Al-Hujurat Verse 13 from the perspective of M. Quraish Shihab's interpretation. The methodology used in this research is classified as library research, as all information is sourced from literature. There are two sources of data, namely primary data. The technique employed is documentation method. Data analysis is carried out using several methods, including descriptive and inductive methods. Based on the data analysis in the previous chapters, the author concludes that gender equality in Q.S. Al-Hujurat Verse 13 from M. Quraish Shihab's perspective emphasizes that Islam greatly honors both men and women. There is no distinction between them except for their piety towards Allah Swt. Therefore, the notion that Islam is the root cause of gender inequality is indeed incorrect, as Islam itself upholds dignity between both genders. With the existence of nations and various ethnicities, both genders can compete and can equally succeed in that competition.
